Jellies be Jammin'

I always look at the Lilly inspired painted canvases online and I wish that I cound paint like that! Today I decided to give it a try. I love the Jellies be Jammin' print so I chose to paint it.

Here is my final product and I am in love with it! I can't wait to hang it up in my dorm!

Want to make one too? Here's the directions!

1. Using a light pink color, paint the jellyfish shape and fill it in with the same color.
2. Than take a darker pink color and outline the jellyfish shape you just made. Leave some white spaces  in between the dark and light pink.
3. Use both the light and dark pink colors to paint the tentacles from the jellyfish.
4. Use orange and light green paint to make the dots randomly around the empty space.
5. Use a light blue  paint to make the ocean. Leave white spaces around the colored dots and the jellyfish.
6. Don't forget to paint the sides of the canvas too!

I want to make another one for my dorm. I might try Lobstah Roll or another nautical print.

Any suggestions?

DIY Dorm Chair Slip Cover

So my roommate and I were looking at he pictures of our future home and we kept saying how we wish we could cover our atrocious dorm chairs. I'm sure a lot of you ladies feel the same about your dorm chairs too haha. You can purchase a slip cover from Dorm Sweet Dorm or Decor-2-Ur Door, but they're pretty pricey for something that only costs about $15 dollars to make. I used a 1.5 yards of fabric for this, but it depends on the size of your chair.

Here are the directions!

I made my cover 52 inches long by 23 inches wide. This allows for a half an inch seam allowance .
First measure out and cut your fabric.

Then fold the top of the fabric over, making an overlap.

The overlapped (top) part should be the same length as the back of your chair. Mine was 16 inches long. The bottom, single layer should be the length of your seat (mine was 20 inches long).

Now pin the sides of the overlapped fabric together and sew the sides together. This creates a pocket to cover the back of your chair.
Here's what the pocket will look like once you are finished sewing. Now its time to make the skirt.

To make the skirt, you have to cut two strips of fabric. Mine strips were 55 inches long by 8 inches wide. The width is how long the skirt will hang once it is attached to the main part of the cover.

Make two of these
Now pin and sew the two strips together (right sides together) to make one long strip.

Once you are done, you will have one large strip. Now it's time to attach the skirt to the rest of the cover. Take the cover and lay it so the right side of the fabric is shown (look below). Find the center of the single layered bottom piece (the seat cover, not the pocket) and pin the the center of the skirt (where you sewed the two strips together), right sides together. Then pin the rest of the skirt to the sides and back of the main cover.
*IMPORTANT* When you are pinning the skirt to the back side of the pocket, stop a few inches from the center of the pocket. LOOK BELOW!
Now sew together the pieces that you pinned. Remember to stop a few inches before the center of the back.

It will look like this from the front when you are done sewing.
Now lets do the back. I like pinning the two ends of the skirt together. Then I pin the extra skirt fabric together a few inches from the base of the strip.

I sew along these pins in a diagonal line. I cut the excess after, so the "tail" is shortened. This makes a pleat in the back of the skirt.

Now attatch the rest of the skirt by pinning the strip to the base of the cover. Make sure that you pin the two strips together onto the base of the cover so that you have your pleat.

Sew along the pinned area and then you are done! Oncde you are used to the pinning and the directions, it takes 15 minutes to make! It is really simple once you get used to it. I made my roommate and I these in just one day.

I hope you like this project!

"Party Like it's 1776"

Happy 4th of July! I love the 4th of July because my family and I always go to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina to celebrate and to be with friends. We spend the whole day at the beach and then celebrate with fireworks at night. I love being patriotic so the 4th is very special to me. Each year, I dress in red, white and blue!

Another nice thing about the 4th of July, are the sales. I am a girl who loves to shop so I always head out to the stores with my mom and get amazing clothes to wear on the 4th. This year, I got an amazing deal on Jack Rogers. Yes, THE Jack Rogers. Guess how much they cost me? $43.00! No, I'm not lying. I live fairly close to the Tanger Outlets. I know that they have a lot of them around the country, so if you live anywhere near one, I would highly suggest visiting it. They have everyday sales on  brands like Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade and Nike. When there is a holiday weekend, the sales are crazy. I get a lot of shoes at the Saks Fifth Avenue outlet. They have amazing deals. I got my Jacks there today. They were originally $110, and were marked down to $71. Then they had an additional 40% off because of the holiday weekend, so they cost me around $43. Over this past Memorial Day weekend, I got a pair of Sperry's for $20.

I am in LOVE with my new Jacks. They are navy. I really wanted a navy pair because I wear a lot of blue and they will be great for tailgating this Fall!

I can't wait to break these in!!

Living Healthy

Recently I have been trying to live really healthy. For a few weeks now, I have been jogging three miles a day. I mapped out three miles within my neighborhood and I get up early every morning and do my jog. It makes me feel really good when I am finished.  I also love going on my jog because it gives me time to think about things that are going on in my life. I can think about what fabric I want for my dorm bed skirt or even allow me to plan out what I'm going to do that day. It's just some time that I can dedicate to myself every morning.

I have also been looking for healthier snacks to munch on throught the day. I think that unhealthy snacks is what can really ruin a diet. It's easier to choose healthier options for meals, but snacks can be tricky if your'e a picky eater like me. Today at the grocery store I found a really good snack option for myself. I usually hate hummus because it is make of chickpeas, but I found a fantastic hummus that is made from black beans! I love black beans so when I saw this hummus on the shelf, I had to try it!

This is the container. The hummus is a bit spicy, but it tastes SO yummy. It has a spicy corn relish in the center so you can control how much flavor you want.

This is the lid. You can see where the corn relish is.

Here is a photo of the hummus right after I took my first bite and fell in love! I like eating the hummus with crackers and vegstables. Baby carrots are the perfect snack when eaten with this!

I hope you liked my post about living healthy. What's your workout routine? What are some of your favorite healthy snacks? Comment below!

Graduation and Shopping

So today I finally graduated from high school! My school was the last to hold graduation out of all the schools around my neighborhood. It was a nice day because I got to spend time celebrating with my friends and family. I was kind of anxious to get this day out of the way because I feel so ready to go and start my life in college.  Now I'm happy that I can just focus on the future.

A few days ago I came across the Lauren James website again after forgetting about it for a while. I immediately fell in love with all the cute clothes! I've been looking around for a few new pieces of clothing before I head off to college and I think I know where I want to shop! The t-shirts look so comfy and I want them all. I also love the seersucker shorties. The problem with Lauren James is that their stuff is always out of stock. You really have to buy her stuff as soon as they come out or you won't get your size or preferable color. I decided to get a t-shirt and a pair of shorts from Country Club Prep because they had more items in stock than the actual Lauren James website.
I got the Mine Julep t-shirt in pink! The illustration on the back is so adorable.

Here's a front view. I can just imagine myself lounging around campus in this shirt while studying or just hanging out.

These are the seersucker shorties in Light Blue

This is a front veiw of the shorties. They're perfect for going out or  for working out!

I used this coupon inorder to get 20% off:
SICEM14

And if you make an account with Country Club Prep, you get free shipping for life!

Thanks for reading,

Dorm Ideas

I moving into my dorm in less than two months and I'm starting to get the last minute items together. I have a lot of things planed out, but here are a few of the things that I have bought already.
This is the Dena Home "Annabelle" Bedding. I got the comforter and the pillow sham . I love the bed skirt, but sadly it is too small for dorm bedding. Dena Home makes tons of cute bedding sets. I would highly recommend them. You can purchase them at nordstroms.com Here's the link for the bedding:

I got these sheets from PB Teen a few weeks ago. These aren't mine, I got pink embroidery instead of green. I had mine moonogrammed, but you can tons of personilaztion choices to choose from when you checkout. You can also use choose different fonts! These sheets come with two pillow cases (pictured below). They can also be monogrammed along the opening of the pillow case. I beileve that these sheets are still on sale,  and you get a discount if you use your college email address to order them.

This is the Keruig Mini coffee maker. It is made special for offices and dorms so that it doesn't take up much space. It comes in many different colors, but I chose pink (the yellow is adorable too!). It fits a regular sized travel mug so you can still make your coffee and then run to class in the morning.
My dorm room comes with a desk hutch so I got four of these boxes to store all of my makeup, hair accessories and irons. They are perfect size for curling irons, blow dryers and flat irons. You will soon learn that I am a makeup junkie, so I plan on storing all of my makeup in these boxes. They come two in a pack and they are really cheap. They also come in lots of different sizes so you can pick the right size for you.

This was not a purchase but I made it! This is my dorm chair cover that I made a few weeks ago. It is on a foldable chair in the picture, so it doesn't fit perfectly since it was made using the dorm chair measurments. I really want to show y'all how to make this because it is so expensive to buy those dorm chair covers from Dorm Sweet Dorm and Decor 2 Ur Door. This cost me about $14.00 to make and it was really simple if you know how to work a sewing machine.

This is all the "fancy" stuff that I have for my dorm so far. My mom and I got all the regular stuff like laundry detergent and an iron so I won't put all of that on here. There is still a lot to do in preparation for move in day, so I'll let y'all know what else I buy in order to make my dorm amazing.

Introduction and Lilly Pulitzer Agenda

Hey Y'all! I'm Jayne and I'll be a freshman in college this fall. I wanted to create this blog to show everyone how I am preparing for college. I have done several DIY projects for my dorm, which includes a DIY headboard and chair slipcover. I'll also be making bedskirts and other little dorm projects. Part of this blog will be how I organize myself for college and how y'all can organize yourselves too.

I just got my Lilly Pulitzer agenda a few days ago. I picked it up as I was passing through a town with a Lilly store. I have been trying to decide which print I wanted for a few weeks now, but I finally decided on Peelin' Out. I got the large agenda because I love having a lot of room to write and I think the Jumbo  size was WAY too bg to carrying around to all my classes. I would recommend the jumbo agenda if you are just leaving it on your desk or something.

My large agenda in Peelin' Out

This year's agenda now has a monthly calander page before all the weekly pages come. I love this feature because it allows you to see the month as a whole without having to go all the way to the monthly pages in the front. Because there are now two monthly calanders, I had a hard time figuring out how I want to organize my agenda. After a lot of thinking, I decided on using the front monthly calanders for "Social/Other Activities" and using the monthly calander before the weekly pages for tests, quizzes and other assignments.

This is one of the monthly pages that is in the front of the agenda.  I would use this for  social things and activities.  I already wrote in all of the home football games.

Before each monthly (the ones before the weekly pages), there is a cute page with a different saying. This is one of my favorites because I love the colors.

Before the calander

One of the calander pages before the weekly pages. I would use this to write down when my assignments are due and when my tests are.
This is one of the weekly pages where I'll write a list of things that I need to do on a certain day, like study, make note cards and go to the gym.

I hope you liked this post about how I organize my Lilly agenda. I would definitely recommend getting one of these. I would be completely lost without my agenda. My next post will either be about making a dorm headboard or a dorm chair slip cover. Check back for updates!

Jayne
